Baltic countries begin evacuation of citizens from Middle East as crisis escalates

Riga [Latvia], June 18: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have begun to evacuate their citizens from the crisis-hit Middle East, according to radio broadcaster LRT on Tuesday.
Citizens from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and other European Union (EU) countries have been transported by three buses to Jordan, from where they will later be flown to Vilnius on a civilian aircraft, LRT reported.
The buses reached the Jordanian border on Tuesday afternoon, the Lithuanian news portal 15min reported.
The Latvian Foreign Ministry said that 11 Latvian nationals had departed from Tel Aviv, Israel, for Jordan on Tuesday.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on Tuesday that Estonia has worked in recent days to ensure that all Estonian citizens wishing to leave due to the Israel-Iran conflict can return.
The Baltic News Service reported earlier that over 100 people, mostly Lithuanian citizens, have registered for the evacuation.
